CLEVELAND RUNNING ATTACK TO DROUGHN ON AND ON
Running for 1,000 yards in a season doesn’t happen very often in Cleveland. It had been 20 years since a back accomplished the feat for the Browns. Now that Reuben Droughns has put an end to that sub-par streak, he’s been rewarded with a three-year contract extension.
Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, but Droughns proved his talents weren’t limited to previous seasons in the Denver scheme. He finished 2005 with 1,232 yards and even broke Jim Brown’s club record for carries in a season.
But enough contract talk - where should you draft Droughns? Assuming the Browns start Charlie Frye at quarterback next season, they’ll wish to ease him into the job through a focus on the running game. Expect Droughns to top 1,000 yards again and think about him in the late second round. He ought to be taken ahead of aging stars such as Curtis Martin.
